RAIL SUSTAINABILITY: THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Sustainability is becoming increasingly prevalent, and the role of train networks and their stations is an enormous opportunity for how we can help deliver green travel.

In the final video in our series with Network Rail, we look at the impact of sustainability on rail travel and the big questions on how to deal with some of these challenges. From looking at the role of the journey to and from a train station, the journey on a train, what is within Network Rail’s control to make a difference and how the industry can better collaborate.

LAST MILE LOGISTICS: THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

The freight estate is historic and its traditional purpose is moving goods from one location to another, but the world is changing and customers want everything faster.  Whilst the movement of goods is a very topical theme, there are big questions from a sustainability perspective that need to be considered.

PLACEMAKING AND PARTNERSHIPS: THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Why do we use train stations? This is one of the big questions we explored with Network Rail as we look at the strategy to make a station a mixed-use destination in our towns and cities.

We needed to look at stations from a community point of view and how they can support a wider community use, particularly with the change in passenger demand post-COVID. It’s not just what happens inside but, more importantly, within the wider area, and the role of placemaking and partnerships to achieve this is so important.

Watch our latest clip below to learn more about the crucial role of placemaking and partnerships in our train stations.

THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT WITH NETWORK RAIL

Network Rail as a business is continuously changing, as are the towns and communities their stations sit within. Working with Montagu Evans, this project came from a need to be more strategic in thinking and developing approaches for the here and now, as well as preparing for the future.

Consumer tastes and behaviours have changed post-Covid, along with the shift from the business to the leisure traveller, and we needed to look at what those changes are, what they mean, and what is provided at a station and see how we can make them a more of an integral of town and city centres.

In this video case study, we explore with Network Rail how, with their stations, we can drive initiatives forward and ensure our towns and cities of tomorrow are futureproofed through regeneration, placemaking, movement of goods and sustainability. Watch it below…
