Creating Colechurch House, London Bridge
Planning - Historic Environment & Townscape
London Borough of Southwark
This project was worked on by David taylor, a partner in our heritage and townscape team, working in partnership with our client and team.
Key information
This scheme provided 48,180 sq m (518,588 sqft) of office space along with new public space on the ground floor and a home for the Southwark Playhouse theatre.
Montagu Evans offered particular advice in relation to how this major redevelopment interacts with a range of sensitive land receptors, including views of St Paul’s from Parliament Hill, local views of Southwark Cathedral, and the Tower of London World Heritage Site. A considered approach working alongside the scheme architects, Foster and Partners, to critically review and interpret the management guidance for the views and provide a detailed understanding of the setting of heritage assets to provide a sensitive design solution.
The outcome was first-rate sustainable architecture that will greatly benefit the local and wider community by providing a front door for those arriving in London from the adjacent station.
